Some problems you may encounter while using communications
software with Windows95/98 can be resolved by removing your modem drivers (the software
that controls the modem) and then reinstalling them.

- Click on Start, then Settings, then Control Panel.
The Control Panel window will open.
Double-click on Modems. The Modems Properties window
will open.
In "The following modems are set up on this
computer" window, click once on your modem.

**NOTE: If you see more than one modem
listed it may be you have modem drivers installed where no modem physically exists. You
will need to remove all the modems.
Click the Remove button. The modem listing will disappear from the
window.
Close the modem properties and control panel.
Restart your computer.
- After you have physically installed the modem, and you have confirmed that you have it
connected right, turn on your computer.
- If you have it installed correctly Windows95/98 will detect it and prompt you with a
screen titled "Found New Hardware".
- You will then be prompted to pick the drivers for this new hardware.
**NOTE: If you are running Windows98 then Windows98 may already have
updated drivers for your modem and will bypass this part and automatically set up your
modem.
- Click on the Have Disk button in the bottom right.
- Insert the drivers disk that came with your modem and click OK.
**NOTE: If the computer does not find it in
the a:\ then you may want to try a:\win95 or a:\win98.
- Windows95/98 will continue to set up your modem after you have provided the drivers.
