Setting up DSL in Windows 95 / 98 (Static IP Address)

Initial Conditions:
Windows 95/98, Ethernet card installed and configured properly (consult the Ethernet card documentation)

1. Right-click on Network Neighborhood.

2. Click (with the left mouse button) on Properties.

3. Click on the component labeled TCP/IP -> [your ethernet card];
do not confuse it with the Ethernet card itself, which has a green icon.
Click on Properties.

4. At the IP Address tab, click on Specify an IP address.
In the field labeled IP Address, fill in the IP address you were assigned.
In the field labeled Subnet Mask, fill in 255.255.255.0

5. Click on the WINS Configuration tab. Click on Disable WINS Resolution.

6. Click on the Gateway tab. In the field labeled New Gateway, fill in 208.2.139.111  
Click Add. The address should now appear in the Installed gateways box.

7. Click on the DNS Configuration tab.

8. Click OK to return to the Network window. Click OK again to save your changes and exit.
The computer will copy some files and then ask to restart; click Yes to restart your computer.
The changes will not take effect until the computer is restarted.
